No. 77 Bowers & Wilkins/La Capsule Sportive/TorcUP FAZZT Race on Friendship Day:
The cars may not have been on the track today but the fans turned out in full force. Alex was able to spend the majority of his day meeting with many of the thousands of fans that were on hand for Friendship Day at the Motegi track. He started his morning with a class visit from a local art school. The students had made a huge welcome banner for Alex a few months ago and the team is proudly displaying it outside of their garage area. His next stop was a visit to the Honda museum which is located on the outside of the speedway. Following this year's Indianapolis 500, Alex sent one of his Arai helmets to the museum to be added to an interesting display that includes the helmets of the drivers. As most people know, Alex has always had brilliantly painted helmets and this one was no different earning its place with helmets from Tony Kanaan, Scott Dixon and Dario Franchitti. The drivers took part in a public forum answering questions about the helmet safety features and explaining the various meanings behind the paint schemes that they use. Speaking of helmets; starting this weekend and continuing in Homestead, Alex will be wearing a custom painted helmet representing the sponsors that will be on board for the remainder of the season; Bowers & Wilkins and TorcUP USA. The helmet features a huge speaker on the top that represents Bowers & Wilkins incredible audio products and is covered on both sides with the TorcUP logo and various renderings of the tools that TorcUP manufacturers. This is just one more way that we can thank our great sponsors for all they do for us.
Friendship day brought out both long time and new fans from around the area. Many of them remembered Alex from 2002 when he finished the race on the podium; they were so excited to bring their photographs and programs for a signature during the afternoon autograph session. The young girls certainly did take a liking to Alex. This must be due to his ability to grow full facial hair. According to the local teenagers, Asian men don't grow facial hair quite like Tagliani can so they tend to sport the smaller "pinch" style. The FAZZT Race Team had a great time today, but Alex and the guys will be much happier once they get on the track starting tomorrow morning with two practice sessions and ending with qualifying for Sunday's 300 mile event.
