No. 13 PDVSA HVM Racing Honda Dallara - E.J. Viso
Starting Position: 17th
Finishing Position: 18th
A race that started with an early burst of speed for the No. 13 car ended when contact with the wall forced HVM Racing to retire early from the ABC Supply/AJ Foyt 225 Sunday at the Milwaukee Mile. E.J. Viso's PDVSA HVM Racing machine finished the race in 18th place after completing 175 of the 225 laps.
Starting from the 17th position, Viso was fast and aggressive from the green flag, passing five cars in the first 10 laps to move up to 12th position. But several laps later, Viso reported he could not shift the car out of fifth gear. He stayed out on the track, maintaining good lap times despite the issue.
A car into the wall on Lap 57 brought out a yellow flag, and Viso brought the No. 13 into the pit for repairs. The team worked quickly to repair the shifting issue in the car's gearbox, and Viso returned to the track 13 laps down in 19th place.
With a full six gears and the desire to make up some lost ground, Viso ran consistently strong lap times for the next 100-plus laps. But on Lap 191, as the race leaders were passing on the low side, Viso brushed the wall in Turn 4. He brought the car into the pit, where the team determined the suspension was broken and the car could not return to the track.
The No. 13 team is now 19th in the IndyCar Series Championship standings.
Comments from HVM Racing Team Principal and Owner Keith Wiggins after the ABC Supply/AJ Foyt 225:
"The start of the race was encouraging, especially after we didn't qualify as well as we'd hoped. We had decided to take a risk with an aggressive setup for the race and it looked to be paying off in the beginning.
"E.J. was as fast as the leaders and making some good moves. But then we had some problems come up and we wound up with another disappointing finish."
Comments from HVM Racing Team Driver E.J. Viso after the ABC Supply/AJ Foyt 225:
"It was our fifth frustrating weekend in the year, and that's a shame because we felt like we improved from last year. But each race, something happens. This week in the team meeting, we agreed to do something aggressive. And we had a good car, but something went wrong and the car got stuck in fifth gear.
(On the contact with the wall) "One of the leaders came by a bit wide and I was in the marbles. I was on ice, and I just kissed the wall.
"I'm looking forward to Texas. We've been preparing for it for the last week and a half and we are making some improvements to the car, so I'm excited for Texas."
