Mike Conway to take part in 60th anniversary of Macau Grand Prix

London, UK – October 10, 2013 – 2006 Macau Grand Prix champion, Mike Conway has been invited to take part in a special race to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the Macau Grand Prix. Conway will be a part of a top driver line-up, competing with former Formula One drivers and previous champions in cars from China’s season-long Volkswagen Scirocco R-Cup.

Conway last raced at the Macau Grand Prix in 2006 with Räikkönen Robertson Racing. He made history by becoming the first British driver to win the Grand Prix since Darren Manning in 1999 and the first winner from the British F3 International Series since Takuma Sato in 2001.

“I am really looking forward to going back to Macau,” said Conway. “The last time I was there was in 2006 in Formula 3 and we won. I love the track so it should be a really fun weekend. There will be some great competition with the likes of David Brabham and other legendary drivers so it will be great to race against them. I have never driven anything like a Volkswagen Scirocco, apart from the one my brother has, but it’s not a race car, so it should be a great weekend.”

Conway has been extremely successful in sports car and open-wheel racing this year. A full-time driver in the FIA World Endurance Series, the 30-year-old has made his debut in the 24 Hours of Le Mans and just had two consecutive wins and poles with Delta-ADR. In the seven IndyCar races he has participated in, Conway has had a win, two podiums and five top-10 finishes with Dale Coyne Racing as well as a pole. He also made his debut in ALMS when he subbed in for the injured Ryan Briscoe at Mosport in July. Having never sat in this LMP2 car or driven on this track, he put the car on pole position and finished on the podium in his class.

The 2006 Macau GP champion will race in the Scirocco R China Masters Challenge which takes place November 14-17.
