Early contact ends Justin's Mid-Ohio race
After a frustrating qualifying session when another car drove into him, Justin's run of bad luck continued when his Mid-Ohio race ended on Lap 23 in similar circumstances. KV Racing's EJ Viso closed the door on the Z-Line Designs car at Turn 4 while Justin was trying to pass the Venezuelan for ninth place. Both cars retired with suspension damage. Dario Franchitti (Chip Ganassi Racing) won the race and Will Power and Helio Castroneves (Team Penske) rounded out the podium, while Justin's Dreyer & Reinbold Racing team-mate, JR Hildebrand, finished 16th in the No. 24 Roll Coater car.
Starting from 11th, Justin passed Marco Andretti (Andretti Autosport) for 10th place on the opening lap and was just half a second behind Viso throughout the opening stint. Turn 4 proved a popular overtaking spot, so with Justin filling EJ's mirrors an attempt to pass should not have come as a surprise to the KV driver. As the fastest of seven runners to have started on the harder black side-walled tyres, Justin was looking forward to taking advantage of the softer Firestone "reds" as the race unfolded, but the incident with Viso caused too much damage to continue.
"I'm sorry for everyone on the Z-Line Designs car and Dreyer & Reinbold Racing," said Justin. "We had a good race going; the car was good and we were keeping up on black tyres. I got a run on EJ down into Turn 4. We weren't quite wheel to wheel, but I was three quarters alongside when we hit the brakes. He went for the apex so I tried to back out of it, but he just didn't leave any racing room for me. Whether it's your corner or not, you've got to leave some room for the other guy to get out of it."
Justin was classified 27th and the Mid-Ohio result drops him one place to 9th in the 2010 IZOD IndyCar Series championship. Justin and DRR will be hoping for better luck in the final road course event of the season in two week's time. The Indy Grand Prix of Sonoma at Infineon Raceway (Sears Point) is on 22nd August.
