LEXINGTON, Ohio - Dreyer & Reinbold Racing had its best road course qualifying effort of 2008 on Saturday at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course for Sunday's Honda Indy 200 with Buddy Rice placing his #15 car in the seventh position.
For the first time this year, Rice advanced from the round one qualifying session into the semi-final round of 12. To do so, he posted a lap time around the 2.258-mile circuit of 1:07.4, quickest in his qualifying group.
His time was comfortable enough to make it in the final group, the Firestone Fast Six, if he could have replicated his lap time.
While running in the second session, he was flirting with spots fourth through seventh. Late in the session, while in seventh, he made one more attempt to bump his way into the final session. Coming to start his flyer lap, however, he dropped a wheel off-track, and the ensuing slide was enough to ruin his last shot to move into the final six.
The fast lap he did post was only .14 seconds off the time needed to advance.
Still, the session is the best showing for Dreyer & Reinbold Racing on a road course in 2008, and Rice and the team feel very happy with the consistency of the race car.
Milka Duno, making her second IndyCar Series start on a road course, used all three practice sessions and qualifying to acclimate herself to the car and the track. Between the final practice and qualifying, the crew made adjustments to the car much made Duno feel very comfortable during qualifying. The laps she turned were her fastest for the weekend.
Both teams are continuing to improve as the weekend progresses and feel confident that solid results await them.
On Sunday morning, Rice and Duno will have one last 30-minute warm-up at 8:30, which can be seen live via streaming video on indycar.com. The Honda Indy 200 at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course begins at 1:30 p.m. EST and can be seen live and in HD on ABC.

"You're pushing, it's hard, it's a narrow line. What I'm personally disappointed with is myself. I ran a (1:07.4) in that previous session. There's no reason I shouldn't have been able to back that up, and I didn't. We should have been in the fast six. The Dreyer and Reinbold team did a great job. I'm happy with everything. I'm just disappointed we didn't put the Roll Coater Honda in the Fast Six."

"The team made a very good car. I had a consistent run during qualifying but still need to improve. This is part of my learning process with this car on a road course."
