Mario Andretti calls pack racing 'boring'

IndyCar fans who were hoping to see pack racing at Texas will likely be disappointed this weekend.

There are a contingent of IndyCar fans who miss the close, NASCAR-style pack racing that oval tracks used to produce on the IndyCar calendar. Mario Andretti is not among those who misses it.

"The pack racing to me is boring. I like to put more of the driving into the driver. It is such a tough package to zero in on. They are looking to come up with an answer with all these new pieces, trying to create something different.

"In the past we have seen some great races and I hope we see another one."

Just six tenths separate the entire field in practice, but don't expect that to translate into pre-2012 pack racing tomorrow night.

Taking with TV, Graham Rahal later added, "Anyone who believes there may be pack racing here; It ain't happening."
