Motorsport.com art director Eric Gilbert presents the photos that he actually uses as screen savers (and that he has actually shot, also). He presents those photos on his personal Facebook page and is now sharing them on Motorsport.com. Enjoy.

IndyCar Series, Fontana, California, 2012-09-15. Once Upon a Time in the West.

That sunset was really magnificent, a few weeks ago at Fontana for the IndyCar season finale. For some odd reason, shooting those cars dogfighting on the fast California Speedway reminded me of old Spaghetti Western movies from Sergio Leone. Maybe it was that tense atmosphere in the orange glow of the dusk hours, but I could swear those open-wheel cars were driven by Clint Eastwood, Charles Bronson or Henry Fonda. Or maybe I was just going insane because of the heat.

Either way, those backlit shots at sunset were all pretty impressive (they usually are). I've always been fascinated with how easy it is to shoot them and how sharp the focus is - the sun light has a specific angle at this time of the day that definitely make everything much easier, in terms of photography. The dry California air was also a bonus, in the whole mix.

Sometimes, I think that every car races should be run at sunset. I don't think I could get ever tired of those amazing colors.
