IndyCar Series, St. Pete, Florida, 2012-03-24. The scenic route.
I like scenery. Any scenery, but more specifically scenery around a race track. It's the neo impressionist vs race lover in me. Nothing major…
At any rate, I tend to prefer shooting race events that are set into a nice, visually interesting scene. Some don't mind that much - they shoot cars and that's it. Nothing wrong with that, but I've been shooting so many cars throughout the years that I often times prefer to see the 'big picture' and integrate what's around the cars, by shooting wide. In other words, I usually prefer to shoot the subject in its context that the subject by itself.
All this to say that more and more, I enjoy shooting the IndyCar event at St. Pete. It is a nice scenic venue, and the organizers were wise enough, when they laid out this track years ago, to have it run by the marina and a few other landscapes. Blue sky, water, palm trees, oh, and race cars. Enough to make one feels like he is in Monaco, Abu Dhabi, Long Beach, or… St. Pete!
