KV AFS driver Sebastian Saavedra qualifies 22nd at Long Beach

Sebastian Saavedra will have a lot of work to do at Long Beach after qualifying in the 22nd position.

Saavedra driving the No. 17 KV AFS Chevrolet/Dallara/Firestone entry went out in group two in round one of qualifying on the 1.968-mile, 11-turn circuit. He posted a time of 68.9619 seconds (102.735 mph), which placed him 11th out of 12 drivers and therefore didn't advance to the next round.

"It has been a rough weekend so far," said Saavedra. "The setups we had previously been trying hadn't been working, so we made a drastic change before qualifying. Looking at how Bourdais' car was running, it was a no brainer to switch to his setup, but unfortunately not enough time to fully to adapt the car. I do feel comfortable with the KV AFS car and believe we have good race car and will focus on learning from it and having a positive day tomorrow."

The 23-year-old will be making his third Verizon IndyCar Series start at Long Beach this weekend. In two previous races, Saavedra has had a best starting position of 15th and a best finish of 14th, both in 2011. A graduate of the Indy Lights Series, Saavedra has experienced success here. While racing in the junior series, he never finished outside of the top-10 and in his three previous attempts at Long Beach had a best finish of second in 2012.
