Kimball leads opening Pocono practice

The 2.5 hour practice ended under yellow when Stefano Coletti spun towards the end of the session.

IndyCar action got underway at Pocono on Saturday morning with a two hour and 30 minute practice session, which ended with Chip Ganassi Racing's Charlie Kimball on top. He went 221.373mph on his quick lap.

It was a duo of CGR Chevrolets at the top with Sage Karam (who ran the most laps at 83) following his elder teammate. Team Penske teammates Simon Pagenaud and Juan Pablo Montoya were next on the time sheets. Takuma Sato was the best from the Honda camp in fifth.

Graham Rahal comes into this race just nine points behind championship leader Montoya and was 11th in this practice. Fellow title rival Scott Dixon was scored down in 16th. All 24 cars posted a time with Ed Carpenter the slowest at 215.815mph.

As the session neared its conclusion, the first and only incident took place. Stefano Coletti, who was 17th, made rather light contact with the inside wall and spun on the front stretch. He was checked and released from the infield care center soon after.
