EARLY SHOWER FOR POWER IN KENTUCKY
Will Power has had his race end in the first five laps due to suspension failure in the Meijer Indy 300 at Kentucky Speedway in Sparta, Kentucky this weekend.
Power qualified 13th for the 200-lap race, but on lap three Power's #8 Aussie Vineyards -- Team Australia car suffered a suspension breakage and steered up the banking into the SAFER Barrier.
Power was able to drive the car back to the pit lane but after examination and attempts to fix the problem, the car was retired after attempting one more lap and Power eventually classified in 26th position.
Power scored 10 points and is now tied for 13th (sits 13th based on tiebreakers) in the standings with 267. He is 31 points out of 10th place and second in the Bombardier Learjet Rookie of the Year race, 31 points behind Hideki Mutoh.
Scott Dixon won the Meijer Indy 300 from Helio Castroneves and Marco Andretti.
Power will be back in action in on the Infineon Raceway road course in two weeks time in Sonoma, California.
WHAT THE TEAM HAD TO SAY --
Will Power: #8 Aussie Vineyards - Team Australia Honda/Dallara/Firestone
"It was a disappointing race for Aussie Vineyards - Team Australia," said Power.
"Four laps into the race we had a mechanical failure, which sent me into the wall, and then I was unable to drive the car.
"I want to thank the KV Racing team once again. We are the top transition team, we have great cars, but at the moment I am just having a really bad run of luck.
"Hopefully at the next race on the road circuit in Sonoma we will have a better weekend."
Craig Gore: Aussie Vineyards - Team Australia
"Will again had luck go against him but we will move on and try to get on the podium at Sonoma," said Gore.
"The entire Aussie Vineyards team is keen to get into the top 10 in the standings. This is a small setback but with a road and a street course coming up we still stand a chance because the points are tight."
