VISION RACING FINISHES EIGHTH AND TENTH AT KANSAS
KANSAS CITY, Kansas - Vision Racing drivers A.J. Foyt IV and Ed Carpenter finished eighth and 10th, respectively, at Kansas Speedway for today's Road Runner Turbo Indy 300.
Foyt, who earned an IndyCar Series career-best qualifying spot of fifth in the Vision Racing No. 2 Dallara/Honda/Firestone drove as high as fourth and piloted his way to his best finish of 2008 and his best finish at Kansas Speedway in five attempts.
His eighth place finish today places him 14th in IndyCar Series championship point standings heading into the month of May and the 92nd running of the Indianapolis 500.
Unfortunately for Carpenter, his race behind the wheel of the No. 20 Menards Vision Racing Dallara/Honda/Firestone was not without incident. Carpenter started from sixth and drove as high as third in the race. He was running in fourth when he went to pit on lap 152. At that time, competitor E.J. Viso mistakenly pitted in Carpenter's pit box while Carpenter was approaching. Subsequently, Carpenter overshot his pits and had to be pushed back for fuel only. At the same time, the caution flag came out for a crash on track.
Carpenter was relegated to ninth and ultimately lost that position as well as he had to come in on lap 194 for Ethanol and Firestones. The 10th place finish for Carpenter is his best finish at Kansas Speedway in five attempts and puts him at ninth in the championship point standings.
A.J. Foyt IV - No. 2 Vision Racing Dallara/Honda/Firestone
"I had a good car today so I have to thank my guys for that and for the great pit stops. I wish we could have had a better result today, but we got caught in the pits when a caution came out and that hurt us. I am glad that the race was clean for us, but I wish we could have come out of here with a better result after starting up where we did."
Ed Carpenter - No. 20 Menards/Vision Racing Dallara/Honda/Firestone
"I had a great car today and was in fourth and could have challenged for a podium spot, but E.J. Viso ruined our chances of that. I came into the pits and he was trying to pit in my pit box and that's just unacceptable. It's a shame that our fate came down to his mistake. If there's something we can take away from the race at this point it's that we have a great car and we can run with the leaders. We just have to put all of this other stuff behind us and focus on getting our cars ready for Indy and having a great month of May."
