Justin Wilson wraps busy week in Sebring

Up Next for Wilson will be the 62nd Annual Mobil 1 12 Hours of Sebring on March 12-15.

Sebring, Fla. (21 February 2014) – For racing drivers, sitting still can be the toughest thing. So after having to stay immobile as he recovered from a broken pelvis through a long off-season, Justin Wilson was pleased to be back on track this week as he completed over a hundred laps of testing at Sebring International Raceway.

Wilson, who opened the year by showing he was back in full form in January as he raced to the finish in the Rolex 24 At Daytona in January, got the chance to sample his new twin-turbo Honda power plant in testing on the Sebring short course on Monday in testing with Dale Coyne Racing.

“It was great to get back in an IndyCar, and get back up to speed with everything,” said Wilson. “It was my first experience with the Honda twin turbo. I was really pleased with how that performed and how it drove.”

The Monday test was the first chance for Wilson to work with his new Dale Coyne Racing engineer Michael Cannon, as well as a range of new faces on the team.

“We were generally just working away on things, trying to get used to the new personnel,” said Wilson. “We had a lot of changes at Dale Coyne Racing. Michael Cannon has a lot of experience. That's great and we were just comparing notes, trying things out and seeing what works, what didn't. I think it was a good test.”

After a full day of media activities on Tuesday for the IndyCar Series Media Day in Orlando, it was back to Sebring for Wilson as he returned to the IndyCar to pick up where he left off with a full day back in the Dale Coyne Racing machine on Wednesday.

On Thursday, it was a different track configuration, a different race car, and a different team as Wilson took to the 3.7-mile full course at Sebring behind the wheel of the No. 60 Michael Shank Racing with Curb/Agajanian Ford Ecoboost/Riley

“It was actually great to see, you're driving down pit lane in one racecar that you're racing, and see your other racecar out there, as well,” said Wilson after seeing the MSR team setting up while aboard the IndyCar. “It was pretty cool seeing the No. 60 (Michael Shank Racing with Curb/Agajanian car) sitting in pit lane at the same time. I can’t wait to get out and do the Sebring 12 Hours again.”

Thursday and Friday saw Wilson pounding out more laps for Shank, teaming with John Pew and Ozz Negri as the trio look forward to the 12 Hours of Sebring and target more progress with the Ford Ecoboost/Riley package.

Up Next for Wilson will be the 62nd Annual Mobil 1 12 Hours of Sebring on March 12-15.
