Justin Wilson looks forward to Toronto double header

Toronto, Ontario – Following two challenging oval outings in the previous two Verizon IndyCar Series events, Justin Wilson is eager to put his No. 19 Boy Scouts of America Honda/Dallara back to work on a street circuit through the streets of Toronto for the IndyCar double header this weekend.

Historically, the streets of Toronto have been good to the Briton. In total, he has nine starts around the circuit with highlights that include a win in 2005, two poles in 2006 and 2010 and a third place podium finish in 2007.

Recent results around the ovals of Pocono and Iowa Speedway have not reflected the strong potential of Wilson’s Dale Coyne Racing Honda machine.  But now Wilson looks to turn the page in two rounds of competition around the 11-turn, 1.75-mile circuit through the streets of downtown Toronto.

The Verizon IndyCar Series has visited four different street courses so far this year and Wilson has finished among the top-10 three times. His best finish came in the first of two races in Detroit when he took fourth in the race through the streets of Belle Isle Park.

Wilson looks to better his 10th and eighth place runs on the Toronto street course last year, with a return trip to the Toronto podium in the double header event. In the 2013 race, Wilson was left playing catch up from the drop of the green flag in Race 1 when his car stalled as he exited pit lane for the pace laps. He was forced to start from the rear the field and used his knowledge and his years of experience at Toronto to his advantage and raced his way back to a top-10 finish at the checkered flag.

“I really like racing in Toronto,” said Wilson. “The circuit is really tight and demanding, but it creates some really great racing and is good fun to drive around. It’s also pretty bumpy because it’s run on the actual streets of Toronto that people normally drive on day after day. So driving around that in an IndyCar really takes a toll and doing a double header there is really physically demanding. But we’ve done of couple of these already this year and physically I’ve been working hard to prepare, so I feel ready.”

In addition to the two 85-lap races, Wilson will also participate in two practices and two separate qualification sessions. Qualifying for Race 1 begins at 10:00 AM (ET) on Saturday, July 19th and the race is set to go green at 3:00 PM (ET). Race 2 on Sunday features a mirrored schedule. 

Both races will be televised LIVE on NBC Sports Network.
