Junqueira to contest ALMS and IndyCar at Baltimore
Bruno Junqueira will jump into the cockpit of an IndyCar on the streets of Baltimore. The Brazilian will drive the No. 67 Sarah Fisher Hartman Racing IZOD IndyCar powered by Honda due to the finger injury sustained by team driver Josef Newgarden this past Sunday. Junqueira already planned to be at the venue to challenge for another class win in the American Le Mans Series.
“It is lucky that we were able to call on Bruno for this weekend's race,” said Sarah Fisher, co-owner of SFHR. Junqueira has experience in American open-wheel racing with eight wins in the former CART/Champ Car World Series, plus his eight Indianapolis 500s. The Brazilian earned the 500 pole at the Brickyard in 2002.
Fisher added, “He has had great results prior to climbing into the No. 67 car, and I hope we can give him the right platform to bring home a solid finish this weekend in Baltimore.”
Newgarden had surgery on Tuesday on his left finger which was fractured in the crash on the 65th lap in the IndyCar race on the Sonoma road course. “I’m really disappointed to not be in the car this weekend but I know Bruno will do a great job for SFHR,” said Newgarden who did add he will be at Baltimore with the team.
Junqueira races in the ALMS with Rocketsports Racing (RSR) along with Tomy Drissi in the Prototype Challenge (PC) class. His first race of the weekend will the ALMS event on Saturday. On Sunday, the Brazilian will take on the IndyCar race. He said, “I am very happy to be back in IndyCar with SFHR for the Baltimore race weekend.” . Added Junqueira, “Sarah’s team is very organized and has been fast all season. They have done a great job with Josef and I hope to give them a good race weekend in Baltimore while Josef is healing.”
