IndyCar Series Qualifications Held Tomorrow
WATKINS GLEN, N.Y.. -- The IndyCar Series debuted at Watkins Glen International Raceway this morning in preparations for Sunday's Watkins Glen Indy Grand Prix. Listed below are practice speeds and quotes from Panther Racing driver Tomas Enge and Tomas Scheckter.
Enge experienced a problem with the linkage of his gear shift lever, and was unable to run in the second session. His time from the morning session was fourth quick while all drivers were running in the wet conditions.
"It was a very productive day for us in the Pennzoil Chevy. We worked on a lot of things and got a feel for this racetrack. Nothing major to report, I know that we'll be quicker tomorrow and everything we learned to was very positive. These American road tracks are very unique and it just takes time to get comfortable. I believe that we are ahead of where we were at Sonoma, which is a good thing because that was a difficult weekend for us."
"I have mixed emotions about the practice session today. We were very good in the morning session for it being just my first time running at this track. We did a pretty good amount of running this morning and we did not do the maximum that we could. The second session was quite frustrating for me. Everybody improved their times very much, but we were only able to do one timed lap because of a technical problem, which is a shame because I'm probably going to have to qualify first. At this moment we just need to make sure everything is working properly and I'm still very sure that I can run at the front of this race."
