HERTA FINISHES EIGHTH AT WATKINS GLEN IN XM SATELLITE RADIO CAR
WATKINS GLEN, N.Y. (Sept. 25, 2005) - XM Satellite Radio driver Bryan Herta drove to an eighth- place finish at Sunday's running of the Indy Racing League® IndyCar® Series Watkins Glen Indy Grand Prix. With the finish, Herta remains in eighth place in the IndyCar Series championship standings and increased his lead to 17 points over the next closest drivers.
Herta started the race near the middle of the field, and after the first pit stop when the car stalled, he was running in 19th position. Over the final 50 laps of the race, despite having no telemetry coming from his car to the pits, Herta moved through the field and into the top 10.
Herta was running in 13th position when he began to make his move in the final 10 laps of the 60-lap event. As the race concluded, Herta gained five spots and several valuable points in the championship race.
Herta's AGR teammate, Dan Wheldon, finished fifth and clinched the IndyCar Series championship for Andretti Green Racing. Scott Dixon won his first race of the season. He was followed across the finish line by AGR drivers Tony Kanaan and Dario Franchitti who finished second and third, respectively.
The final IndyCar Series event of the 2005 season will be run Sunday, Oct. 16, from California Speedway. The California Indy 400 will be televised live by ESPN beginning at 3:30 p.m. (EDT). It can also be heard live by XM subscribers on Extreme XM, channel 152.
Bryan Herta, #7 XM Satellite Radio Dallara/Honda/Firestone:
"That was tough - one of the longest races ever for me. We were in trouble all day long in the XM Satellite Radio car. We hung in there and got an eighth place at least, but it was a long day."
George Klotz, Team Manager, #7 XM Satellite Radio Dallara/Honda/Firestone:
"We have been puzzled all weekend as to why we couldn't make the car go quick. We'll look at that when we get back, but the XM Satellite Radio team hung in there today. We ended up in eighth place and we'll take that heading to Fontana. Congratulations to the entire Andretti Green Racing team and the Klein Tools/Jim Beam crew on winning the championship."
