Indianapolis, May 4, 2000 - Walker Racing rookie driver Sarah Fisher tested a Dallara chassis a total of 207 laps around the historic 2.5-mile Indianapolis track during private team testing on May 2 - 3 in preparation for the Indianapolis 500. The 19-year old driver had a fast speed of 218.50 mph. "The Indy 500 is so competitive that a team needs to use every advantage it can, and we are just trying to see which chassis performs better at the Speedway," said Fisher. "We're trying the Dallara to just utilize a different strategy. With the speeds at Indy being as close as they are you have to try every angle you can. Being a new team and being new to the IRL we are just working on everything we can to get every advantage on the track." Team manager and engineer Rob Edwards was an integral part of the two-day test and commented on its success. "We were obviously able to get up to speed a lot quicker in the Dallara. The advantage for us is that this car is a known entity, whereas the Riley and Scott car is still developing. At least for now, we've put one known piece of the jigsaw puzzle in place for May. Every change we made over the two day test Sarah was able to feel what it did, and that's very important since we have to learn a new car in a short space of time." The next chance for the Walker Race team to work on their Indianapolis 500 qualifying and race set-up will begin on May 13, opening day at the racetrack. Practice will be from 11 a.m. - 6 p.m. from May 13 through May 19. Pole Day will be May 19 with practice from 8 - 10 a.m. and pole qualifying from 11 a.m. - 6 p.m. Bubble Day will be May 20 with practice from 10 - 11:15 a.m. and qualifying from noon - 6 p.m. Carburetion Day practice will be May 25 from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. The 84th running of the Indianapolis 500 will be broadcast live on ABC beginning at 11 a.m. on Sunday, May 28. Walker Racing's Indy Racing Northern Light Series corporate sponsor partners are Cummins, Mead, SpeedWRX.com, St. Elmo Steakhouse and Firestone.
