INDIANAPOLIS, Aug. 28, 2001 - Walker Racing driver Sarah Fisher drove the #15 Walker Racing/Kroger Special/Oldsmobile/Dallara/Firestone car to a strong 11th place finish on Sunday, which brings her top-twelve race finishes for the year to a total of five.
Qualifying for the inaugural Indy Racing League event was rained out on Saturday, so the drivers started the race in order of their point standings, as specified by the IRL rulebook, and Sarah was on the grid in 15th place.
"The car was pretty drivable at the beginning of the race but we worked on the set-up to make it consistently faster throughout," said Sarah. "We have new engine power from Menard Engine development for this race and along with our solid set-up we definitely showed today that we are back in our rhythm. I was able to get up there and race with other people today and that was a lot of fun."
"One of the biggest differences for this race was that we came here and tested beforehand," said owner Derrick Walker. " We started to race again here at St. Louis, and we haven't been able to do that in a while. It was a good confidence-building day for our team.
We also had a new engine this weekend, which around here (the St. Louis track) doesn't make as much of a difference, but our next race is at Chicago, and we should be able to see more of the power of the Menard engine since that is a faster racetrack."
The Chicago race will take place on Sunday, Sept. 2 at the brand-new Chicagoland Speedway. The Delphi Indy 300 will be aired on ABC at 4 p.m. (ET).
