Indianapolis, IN: In a recent announcement, Mall.com-a premier internet mall developer--stated their intent to increase their involvement with the Indy Racing League to include a multi-year agreement with the Texas Motor Speedway sponsoring the final race of the season.
Now recognized as the Mall.com 500, this event will cap the 1999 IRL racing season, and determine who will win the Series Championship. A strong contender for that championship is the Mall.com sponsored Treadway Racing team and driver Sam Schmidt. Only 30 points away from the championship and hard on the heels of a recent victory at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway, the Treadway team is pleased to be affiliated with the Austin-based Mall.com and hopes their venture into event sponsorship proves to be an exciting and beneficial experience.
"The Indy Racing League is a perfect image and demographic fit for internet and technology companies, " stated Scott Cronk, vice president of Treadway Racing, "We are very excited to see Mall.com expanding their interest in the team to include the league, through this event sponsorship in their home state of Texas. With the $1 million series championship on the line, and ABC Sports on board, I think that the Mall.com 500 will be a truly memorable event for participants as well as the fans."
Currently a major sponsor of the Treadway Racing team, Mall.com has both enjoyed and profited by the relationship. "We are very pleased with the entire Treadway Racing sponsorship program," stated vice president Tim Smith. " The national exposure which we have received during the 1999 IRL season was much more than we anticipated. In addition, the support that we have received from each of the Treadway Racing employees has been amazing. We are looking forward to a continued and mutually beneficial relationship in the years to come!"
Mall.com-whose slogan is "Simply Amazing Internet Shopping"-provides shoppers a convenient and time-saving way to find nationally recognized brand name retailers all within the click of a button. Launched on October 15, 1999, Mall.com is using their sponsorship to target those individuals who would rather stay home and shop on-line as opposed to supporting a standard shopping mall facility.
The Mall.com 500 will take place on October 17, 1999 at the Texas Motor Speedway. It will be broadcast on a tape-delayed basis by ABC Sports beginning at 4:00 p.m. (EST), and covered live on the IMS Radio Network at 2:00 p.m. (EST).
