LAS VEGAS– NASCAR Winston Cup driver Tony Stewart will return to his open-wheel roots and compete in the USAC Worldcom Midget Car Series at the Bullring at Las Vegas Motor Speedway Nov. 24.
Stewart will travel to Las Vegas after the New Hampshire 300 Winston Cup race Nov. 23.
“ Anytime I can find the time to run a USAC Midget, I’m going to do it,” Stewart said.“ My roots are in USAC and racing Midgets is my way of having fun. So, I’ll be there.”
Stewart has competed in only one USAC Midget race this year. He won the 50-lap race earlier this month at South Boston Speedway. Stewart has over 260 USAC starts in a 10-year period, of which 98 have been in the Midget Series.
“My last USAC Midget win came about a month ago the Saturday night before I raced at Martinsville,” Stewart said.“ So, like I said, when I can find the time to run a USAC race, I’ll do it. I'm not sure if I'll be able to run Turkey Night at Irwindale this year because of the rescheduled Winston Cup race the next day at New Hampshire, but I know I can make it back in plenty of time for the race at Las Vegas.”
