VISION RACING COMPLETES FIRST DAY OF PRACTICE AT TEXAS
FT. WORTH, Texas -- Vision Racing drivers Ed Carpenter, Tomas Scheckter and A.J. Foyt IV completed their first day of practice at Texas Motor Speedway in preparation for the Bombardier Learjet 550k this afternoon and evening.
Carpenter led the trio in the No. 20 Hitachi Power Tools special with a top speed of 211.306 mph. He was 13th quickest amongst the field of IndyCar Series competitors.
Former Texas race winner, Scheckter, was just behind in the 14th spot for a quick lap at 211.299 mph in the No. 2 Vision Racing Dallara/Honda/Firestone.
Foyt, the Texas native and pilot of the No. 22 Vision Racing entry, finished the evening with a top speed of 210.932 mph, which put him 17th fastest in the 20-car field.
Practice resumes tomorrow on the 1.5-mile oval of Texas Motor Speedway at 3:30 p.m. (EDT). Qualifying for the 228-lap, 342-mile event will also be held tomorrow, Friday, June 8, at 7 pm. (EDT). The Bombardier Learjet 550k will air live on Saturday June 9th, at 10 p.m. (EDT) on ESPN2, IMS Radio Network, XM Satellite Radio channel 145 and on the web at www.IndyCar.com.
Ed Carpenter -- No. 20 Vision Racing Dallara/Honda/Firestone
"We struggled in practice today so we have a lot of work to do tomorrow. I think we have a good racecar, but we don't have the speed that we want. So we'll be working to get more speed out of the cars tomorrow and see if we can't get the Hitachi Power Tools car up higher in the field."
Tomas Scheckter -- No. 2 Vision Racing Dallara/Honda/Firestone
"We were a bit off the pace today and it's unfortunate, but we have tomorrow to sort it out and see if we can't get a little more speed from the car. Obviously we'd like to be faster, but I think we have a good handling car, we just have to get a bit quicker."
A.J. Foyt IV -- No. 22 Vision Racing Dallara/Honda/Firestone
"I think our second practice session went better than our first because we found a little more speed. I think we have a good racecar and an okay qualifying car, but right now, nothing spectacular. So tonight we'll sleep on it and we'll definitely be back out tomorrow working hard to get these cars as quick as we can and get ready to go racing on Saturday."
