FORT WORTH-DALLAS (May 24, 2000) - The name alone of this Indy Racing Northern Light Series team hints that they are not cut from the normal mold. TeamXtreme is fast making its presence known in the open-wheel circuit. And they are doing it their way - in Texas.

TeamXtreme is based out of Rockwall, Texas, a far cry from most of the Indy car racing shops located in or around Indianapolis. But, the owners of this unique team wanted it this way, and are pleased with the rapid growth of the project.

"When we started the team (1999), it was difficult at first to get people interested in joining us here in Texas," team general manager John Lopes said. "We had very little equipment to start with, and the toughest challenge at first was to just get the people to Texas. But now people are calling us wanting to come to work!" TeamXtreme fielded one car last year with John Hollansworth, Jr., in the cockpit. He finished third in the Rookie of the Year chase, and overall, the team was 17th in points for the season.

What was to have been a three-year master plan has taken shape in just two seasons. The 2000 campaign features two cars with rookie Airton Dare and veteran Davey Hamilton in the driver's seats. Lopes believes having the opportunity to race at Texas Motor Speedway twice each year is one of many advantages of having the team based in north Texas. "We like being in Texas," Lopes said. "In a way, we are a bit isolated from the racing norm, but we think it is good for the team.

We don't have to worry as much about losing some of our personnel to other teams who might be located near us. We can do our own thing. But, I must say, there it wasn't long ago that no one knew who we were; now, there isn't a day that goes by that fans don't stop in the shop to visit."

TeamXtreme will enter Dare's #88 car and Hamilton's #16 car in the Casino Magic 500 on June 10 at Texas Motor Speedway.

Tickets for the race are available by calling the Texas Motor Speedway ticket hotline at (817) 215-8500 or logging on to www.texasmotorspeedway.com
