Competition between the two IRL chassis has evened out a bit with six Dallaras and four G Force cars in the top ten. Arie Luyendyk is the top G Force qualifier with a lap of 221.166 mph. Arie sits on the outside of the second row.

Only three rookies are in the field for Saturday night's race. Donnie Beechler led the trio of rookies in qualifying, taking the 17th starting position. J. J. Yeley starts 22nd and Robby Unser starts 27th.

Notes:

Jim Guthrie, injured in the Indy 500 two weeks ago, has signed to drive for Price Cobb's team. Guthrie expects to be back behind the wheel at the next race in New Hampshire.
