FORT WORTH, Tex. (June 8, 2006) -- Panther Racing driver Vitor Meira qualified 13th for the Bombardier Learjet 500 on Thursday at Texas Motor Speedway.

With his team focusing on the setup for the race on Saturday night, Vitor expressed confidence that he will be in the thick of the chase when the green flag falls. Meira will start next to former Rahal-Letterman Racing teammate Buddy Rice, on the inside of the seventh row.

Meira looks to join the company of Scott Goodyear, Sam Hornish Jr. and Tomas Scheckter as drivers that have won a race at Texas for Panther Racing. Goodyear captured two victories at TMS (1999, 2000), Hornish won twice (2001, 2002) and Scheckter crossed the finish line first last June, giving Panther its 15th career victory.

Currently in sixth place in the IndyCar Series standings, Vitor is coming off a second-place finish at Watkins Glen, the team's best result at a road course event.

Vitor Meira Quote:

"Our focus today was about the race setup and I'm very confident about our chances on Saturday night. We know that we could have done better in qualifications but Texas is a track where it doesn't matter where you start. During the race we'll find some friends to run with and we won't have a problem getting to the front. Panther Racing has won this race five times, and they've done it from the pole position and they've done it from mid-field, so we know what is important here."
