KELLEY RACING LOOKING GOOD FOR QUALIFYING

1999 Pep Boys Indy Racing League Championship - Round 11 Mall.Com 500 Texas Motor Speedway / Fort Worth, Texas Practice Report -- Friday, October 15, 1999

NOTES AND QUOTES:

Kelley Racing drivers Scott Sharp and Mark Dismore ended Friday's practice day in 2nd and 3rd positions, respectively. The #8 Delphi Automotive Systems car churned a fast lap speed of 215.627 mph, while the #28 MCI WorldCom car followed closely behind with a speed of 215.639 mph. Scott Sharp, who is currently 4th in the IRL championship standings, is still eligible to win the championship crown and will be pushing the limit to capture his second race win of the season.

#8 Scott Sharp, Delphi Automotive Systems/Dallara/Oldsmobile/Goodyear:

"We improved a lot out there throughout the day. I'm quite happy where we are right now. I was really trying to mix it up out there in traffic today. The car is handling great. The Delphi team is working so hard. We're going to do an engine change tonight and it should give us a little more punch for tomorrow's qualifying session."

#28 Mark Dismore, MCI WorldCom/Dallara/Oldsmobile/Goodyear:

"I'm 100% happy with the car. The tire wear looks good compared to the June race weekend. The MCI WorldCom crew has put together a great car for me. It feels very sound. We're going to make an engine and gear change tonight, and we should be OK for tomorrow's qualifying."

Qualifying for the Mall.Com 500 starts tomorrow at 12:00 p.m. (local time). Live television coverage can be seen on SpeedVision. Race action is scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m. (local time). A taped-delayed television broadcast will be aired on ABC at 4:00 p.m. (EDT). Check local television listings for accurate times.
