Race Distance: 300 miles or 482.80 kilometers (200 laps around the 1.5-mile oval).
Firehawk Race Tires Supplied: Firestone delivered 828 Firehawk racing radials for use this weekend. All were produced at the Firestone Technical Center in Akron, Ohio. At the direction of Indy Racing League officials, each entered car will receive eight sets of tires (32 total) this weekend, to be used at the team's discretion throughout practice, qualifying and race sessions. The specification chosen for this weekend's event by Firestone's race tire development team is identical to the one used at Chicagoland Speedway in September. It utilizes the same right- and left-side compounds that were used earlier this season at Texas Motor Speedway, combined with the same construction employed for the tires used at Kansas in July. This specification is specifically designed to withstand the steep banking and consistently high speeds typically seen at TMS.
Quote from Al Speyer, Executive Director, Firestone Racing: "Texas Motor Speedway is a showcase for everything we love about the Indy Racing League. This track has produced some of the most exciting races in league history, the fans are incredible and the staff here always puts on a first-class event. We always look forward to coming here and this weekend is no exception. Like every other track with steep banking and consistent high-speed action, TMS provides us with quite a challenge in producing a tire that can withstand the beating they can take here. But we have a lot of experience with this type of track and we're confident we've brought just the right tire for this event. This has been a fantastic season, and we're expecting a really exciting race this weekend. We're looking forward to seeing Tony Kanaan and Andretti Green Racing celebrate their well-deserved championship on Sunday."
Firestone Performance Award: During pre-race festivities on Sunday, Firestone Racing will present a $10,000 check to Helio Castroneves of Marlboro Team Penske for leading lap 102 of the Toyota Indy 400 at California Speedway on October 3. This award commemorates Firestone's status as the only tire manufacturer to have participated in every IRL event and is given to the driver who, in each IndyCar Series event, leads the lap number corresponding to the total number of IndyCar races run to that point. This weekend, the leader of lap 103 of the Chevy 500 will earn the $10,000 Firestone Performance Award.
