Championship leader Kanaan to start fourth in Texas

IRL IndyCar Series points leader Tony Kanaan led the Honda-powered field in qualifying at Texas Motor Speedway, and will start from the outside of the second row in Saturday night's Bombardier 500. The Andretti Green Racing driver, already a winner this year at Phoenix and a two-time pole qualifier, ran a best lap of 217.149 miles per hour at the 1.5-mile high banked Texas oval.

Former series champion Kenny Brack will start just behind Kanaan, from the outside of row three, in his Honda-powered Team Rahal entry. Veteran open-wheel racer Bryan Herta, making his first start at Andretti Green for the injured Dario Franchitti, will line up on the inside of the fifth row, with rookie points leader Roger Yasukawa 11th on the grid for Super Aguri Fernandez Racing.

Dan Wheldon, making his third start of the season for Andretti Green, qualified 13th, while owner/driver Greg Ray rounded out the six-car Honda entry and will start 15th in the 21-car field.

Following two additional practice sessions on Friday, the 200-lap race starts Saturday at 8 p.m. EDT, with live television coverage on ESPN.

Tony Kanaan (#11 7-Eleven/Andretti Green Racing Honda) qualified fourth: "We did what we could tonight, and so we'll be starting on the second row. That's okay, qualifying here isn't as important as at some of the other circuits. Having a good car in the race will be the key for Saturday night. If the car is fast, and good in traffic, we'll be fine."
