Scheckter's dominating run at Texas ends in disappointment for Red Bull Cheever Racing.

Starting from the pole position, rookie Tomas Scheckter led over half the Boomtown 500 at Texas Motor Speedway before a mishap in the final pit stop dropped him out of contention.

Scheckter led a total of 107 laps and turned the fastest lap of the leaders in the No. 52 Red Bull Cheever Racing Infiniti. He held nearly a second lead over Laurent Redon when he entered the pit lane on lap 160 of 200. Complaining of a weak clutch, Scheckter stalled the car. The crew was unable to restart the car, dropping the No. 52 Dallara back to a 17th place finish.

Eddie Cheever Jr. turned the fastest lap of the race at 220.447 mph as he joined teammate Scheckter in battling for the team's first victory of the season. The No. 51 Red Bull Cheever Racing Infiniti was in the front pack of six cars on lap 127 when Cheever touched wheels with Sam Hornish Jr., putting both cars into the wall. Both drivers were uninjured in the accident.

Cheever said: "Once again the Red Bull Infiniti cars were the fastest cars on track, and once again we failed to execute. Things have to turn in our favor soon."

General Manager Richard Caron said: "I don't know why we have this black cloud hanging over us."

Finishing 19th, Eddie Cheever Jr. is currently 13th in the point standings, while Tomas Scheckter is 18th.

Eddie Cheever Jr. on Race
"It was a very tight fit. I was passing Hornish on the inside, and we touched. I have to look at the replay to understand what exactly happened. I couldn't do anything with the car in the heat of the day, but the cooler it got, the faster I was."

Tomas Scheckter on Race
"I came in for the final pit stop and the clutch was soggy. I didn't have a radio so I couldn't tell the team. I put in the clutch, the gear engaged, the car lurched forward and it died. I don't know what I have to do to win a race. The Red Bull Infiniti was unbelievable. The crew has really worked hard. They deserved this win. We just have to move on and get them at Colorado."
