FORT WORTH, Texas (June 7, 2003) -- Buddy Rice finished 14th Saturday night in the Bombardier 500 at Texas Motor Speedway, the fifth IRL IndyCar Series race of the 2003 season.

Rice, whose Red Bull Cheever Racing No. 52 Chevrolet-powered Dallara qualified 20th in the 22-car field, stayed out of trouble and finished five laps behind winner Al Unser Jr.

"Basically, it was just good that we finished," Rice said. "We just have to take that for what it is worth right now. I hope that when we go on to Colorado, which is more of a handling track, we'll be able to keep up better. We'll just have to see when we get there."

The race continued Rice's streak of finishing every IRL race he's started - nine in a row.

"I could see how frustrating this race was for Buddy," said team owner Eddie Cheever Jr., who served as a spotter for Rice. "If there's a silver lining to this race, it's that Buddy gained a lot of experience in learning how to deal with traffic."

Rice, who holds the track record of 222.501 mph from last year's Chevy 500. He had an electronic failure that caused his on-board data to go blank. As a result, he was penalized for speeding on pit road.

"It's another finish for Red Bull Cheever Racing," Rice said. "We got some more points for the team."
