TOP SIX TAKE BEST SHOT AT IRL CHAMPIONSHIP

FORT WORTH-DALLAS (Oct. 12, 1999) - It's a regular Texas six-shooter with a record number six drivers taking their best shot at the Pep Boys Indy Racing League Championship during the Oct. 17 Mall.com 500.

"This is really unprecedented in any form of motorsports," said speedway general manager Eddie Gossage. "To have this many drivers who actually have a real chance at winning the championship is really something. I'm sure it's going to be a great show for the fans come Sunday."

It seems only fitting that the champion will be crowned in Texas since so many of the contenders have ties to the Lone Star State. Leading the pack is hometown favorite Greg Ray. Ray, a native Texan and resident of Plano, Texas, is leading Kenny Brack by only 13 points. Brack just happens to drive for racing legend and Texan A. J. Foyt.
