FORT WORTH-DALLAS (Oct. 13, 1999) - Thanks to Texas Motor Speedway, fans at Sunday's Mall.com 500 will find it easier to "follow the leaders." The six Pep Boys Indy Racing League championship contenders will be distinguished from the rest of the field by fluorescent orange markings and the "championship seals" on the cars.

"This is a championship event, and we want the fans to be able to easily follow the leaders throughout the race," speedway general manager Eddie Gossage said. "We felt that marking the cars provide added excitement and the IRL agreed."

The Pep Boys Indy Racing League has approved putting the markings on the cars of points leader Greg Ray as well as Kenny Brack, Sam Schmidt, Scott Sharp, Scott Goodyear, and Buddy Lazier.

The orange markings will appear in three places on the cars, one of which is on the vertical fin behind the motor, which will also carry the championship seal. The markings will also be on the outside of the vertical end fin of the wing, and a fluorescent orange box trimmed in black will be placed around each of the numbers on the car.

The six IRL championship contenders are eligible for the Pep Boys Million, the $1-million bonus split evenly between the series-winning driver and car owner.
