FT. WORTH, Texas (June 6, 2003) --Dan Wheldon took the Klein Tools/Jim Beam Dallara/Honda/Firestone out on track today at Texas Motor Speedway for the final two practice sessions before tomorrow night's Bombardier 500k. He was able to post the seventh fastest time of the day at 218.643 miles per hour (23.9569 seconds).
Wheldon and the Klein Tools/Jim Beam crew continued to concentrate of the car's handling in heavy traffic, trying to run with other groups of cars. Wheldon was able to run faster than his qualifying time in both sessions due to the fact he was able to work in the draft to increase the cars speed. Wheldon will start 13th tomorrow night.
Felipe Giaffone was the quickest in today's practice sessions logging a best lap at 220.574 miles per hour (23.7471 seconds). He was followed by his teammate Tora Takagi who lapped the 1.5-mile speedway at 219.916 miles per hour. Pole sitter Scott Dixon rounds out the top three with a best speed of 219.471 miles per hour (23.8665 seconds.) Wheldon's teammate Bryan Herta, who is substituting for Dario Franchitti, was fourth fastest at 218.900 miles per hour. Tony Kanaan was ninth quick with a best speed of 217.884 miles per hour.
The Bombardier 500k will be broadcast live tomorrow on ESPN with the green flag scheduled to fly at 8:21 p.m. (EDT). ESPN2 will broadcast a pre-race show at 12 p.m. (EDT).

"I think the Klein Tools/Jim Beam car is running well. I'm disappointed by our qualifying run last night, but I think we've been competitive in both of the practice sessions today. We ran, and mixed it up with a lot of traffic because that is the way I think the race is going to be run. I think the Klein Tools/Jim Beam car is going to be strong. You need a good engine to make a pass out there and we've got Honda supplying our power, so I know we will be okay."

"We were able to run a ton of laps today and certainly this afternoon was better than this morning. I don't think we had a good handle on it this morning, but we made a couple of changes and I think we are pretty happy. It is really hard to tell because when you run with some slow guys you run that speed and when you run with the faster cars you run faster. Dan is pretty happy and that's number one, so I think if we can play the game right tomorrow, we'll be alright."
