Bryan Herta to start from the inside of fifth row at Texas
FT. WORTH, Texas (June 5, 2003) -- Bryan Herta will make his Indy Racing League (IRL) IndyCar^Ù Series debut Saturday night at Texas Motor Speedway in the #27 Archipelago/Motorola Dallara/Honda/Firestone, and he'll do it from the ninth starting spot. Herta, who is subbing for the injured Dario Franchitti, qualified for the Bombardier 500k with an average speed of 215.578 miles per hour. Herta was limited to only 35 laps of practice by afternoon rain showers. The rain cleared in the early evening, allowing for an abbreviated practice session and qualifying. During the practice, the Archipelago/Motorola crew worked on the car's race balance, specifically working in traffic. Tomas Scheckter won the "MBNA Pole Award" with an average speed of 219.300 miles per hour. His teammate Scott Dixon will start second with an average speed of 218.654 miles per hour. Tora Takagi will line up third on the grid with a lap of 218.027 miles per hour. Wheldon's teammate Tony Kanaan will start on the outside of the second row. Kanaan averaged 217.149 miles per hour. Dan Wheldon will start 13th after posting a qualifying speed of 214.975 miles per hour. Practice continues tomorrow for the Bombardier 500k with the green flag scheduled to fly at 8 p.m. EDT on Saturday. The race will be broadcast live on ESPN.
Bryan Herta #27 Archipelago/Motorola Dallara/Honda/Firestone "I'm a little disappointed. We wanted to be a little quicker, but that is all we had. Now the Archipelago/Motorola crew has to go back to the garage and find a little more speed. Everything is going well. I've had the opportunity to test with Andretti Green Racing a few times, so I feel comfortable with the team and the car. The challenge at Texas is when we start racing. Everyone is running really close and you have to be able to run fast anywhere on the track, so that is really what we worked on in practice."

Kyle Moyer, Team Manager, Archipelago/Motorola "Bryan is doing a good job for us. We are really more concerned about the car's race setup. We would have liked to make a run at the pole, but we know Saturday is really what is important. We have a couple of practice sessions tomorrow and we'll keep working on the race balance to get a good car for an exciting race."
