XM Satellite Radio Driver Bryan Herta 19th at Texas
Ft. Worth , Texas (June 12, 2004) -.XM Satellite Radio driver Bryan Herta saw a promising weekend fall by the wayside when electrical problems forced him out of the Bombardier 500k at Texas Motor Speedway tonight.
Early in the race Herta began noticing a problem with the car, but was still able to run among the leaders, getting as high as fourth before finally exiting the race on lap 113 in the 19th position. The XM satellite Radio crew put together two great pit stops allowing Herta to stay with the leaders and contend for the win early in the race.
Tony Kanaan claimed his second victory of the year and the third win of 2004 for Andretti Green Racing, beating teammate Dario Franchitti to the checkered flag by a quarter of a second. It was also the second "one-two" finish by AGR in three races. Alex Barron finished third.
With the win Kanaan now leads Dan Wheldon by 35 points in the championship standings. Helio Castroneves is third, 64 points behind Kanaan.
The IndyCar Series moves to the three-quarter mile Richmond International Raceway June 26 for Round 6 of the 16 race schedule.
Bryan Herta, Driver, #7 XM Satellite Radio Dallara/Honda/Firestone
"It felt like something broke in the back of car. We had a similar problem all weekend; it was like a skip in the rear of the car. We know it wasn't in the engine, but we are still looking into what the problem could be. The XM Satellite Radio crew did a great job. We were running up front and look at what Tony (Kanaan) and Dario (Franchitti) did tonight. I think we would have been right in the mix with them."
George Klotz, Team Manager, #7 XM Satellite Radio Dallara/Honda/Firestone
"Something in the drivetrain broke. We were looking really good; we were running fourth after the pit stops. The XM Satellite Radio crew did great and Bryan did great. It was a good weekend. Unfortunately, we couldn't solve the problem that happened in the race. Now we'll go to XM's backyard in Richmond and try and get a win."
