Event Moves Up to Second Race of IndyCar Series Championship

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (Sept. 13, 2005) - The Indy Racing League announced today that the 2006 Honda Grand Prix of St. Petersburg will be run on Sunday, April 2, 2006, through the streets of St. Petersburg, Fla.

The event, which will be the second race on the 2006 IndyCar Series schedule, will feature race activities beginning on Thursday, March 30. The Honda Grand Prix will once again be the first non-oval event of the season.

"As successful as the 2005 Honda Grand Prix was, we've been very eager to see the schedule for 2006 and get rolling toward another great race in St. Petersburg," said Tim Ramsberger, vice president of Andretti Green Promotions, which manages the event. There was so much excitement surrounding last year's race weekend and we're looking forward to eclipsing that with an even better show in 2006."

The 2006 IndyCar Series schedule released today features 14 events, with 11 of those slated to be run on ovals, including the 90th running of the Indianapolis 500.

St. Petersburg resident Dan Wheldon, who drives the #26 Klein Tools/Jim Beam Honda-powered Dallara for Andretti Green Racing, won the 2005 Honda Grand Prix of St. Petersburg before going on to win the Indianapolis 500.

Tickets for the 2006 Honda Grand Prix are expected to go on sale in October.
