SCHECKTER GIVES VISION RACING TOP-10 FINISH AT INFINEON RACEWAY
SONOMA, Calif. -- Vision Racing driver Tomas Scheckter earned a top-10 finish at Infineon Raceway after coming in eighth place in the Motorola Indy 300 presented by Jackson Rancheria Casino & Hotel. Teammate Ed Carpenter finished 13th, while A.J. Foyt was knocked out in the closing laps by Scott Sharp.
The eighth place drive by Scheckter puts his No. 2 Vision Racing Dallara/Honda/Firestone in the top-10 for the ninth time this season and for the second straight time following his fifth place run at Kentucky Speedway.
Starting from 11th today, Scheckter ran as high as sixth in what was his best start and finish at Infineon Raceway. The eighth place finish moved Scheckter up one spot in the IndyCar Series championship point standings to ninth.
Carpenter started the day from the 14th spot, ran as high as 12th and ultimately finished 13th. Carpenter and the No. 20 Hitachi Power Tools special moved back up one spot to 14th in the point standings.
Driving the team's No. 22 Honda powered Dallara, Foyt started in 15th, in his first start at Infineon Raceway. He was running in 14th on lap 73 when Scott Sharp drove underneath him in turn 11 and then spun out in front of him, causing Foyt to crash. Foyt dropped to 15th in the Series point standings.
Tomas Scheckter -- No. 2 Vision Racing Dallara/Honda/Firestone
"The race was okay. It's the best race I've had here and I'm pleased with a top-10 finish. The guys gave me good stops and a good car and we just made the best of it. We need to stay in the top-10 and challenge for top-five finishes in the final two events as we keep an eye on the points situation, so we will take the good run we had today and focus on the races coming up."
Ed Carpenter -- No. 20 Hitachi Power Tools/Vision Racing Dallara/Honda/Firestone
"We had alright race today. I think the team is continuing to improve on road courses and we are getting there. Today wasn't too bad for us. I battled some understeer for much of the race, but overall we ran clean laps, had some good stops and put together a decent race."
A.J. Foyt IV -- No. 22 Vision Racing Dallara/Honda/Firestone
"I just keep learning more and more about these road courses. We were doing alright, but Scott Sharp just made a dumb move there when he dove underneath me and then spun out in front of me. It's just unfortunate for the team."
