Sharp Fourth Fastest in IndyCar Series Road Course Test

Scott Sharp and the Delphi Fernandez Racing team notched the fourth quickest time overall in the first road course appearance of the IndyCar Series in 2006. The two-day test held on Homestead-Miami Speedway's 2.21-mile road course featured 18 competitors. Sharp, aboard the #8 Delphi Panoz/Honda/Firestone, produced a best lap of 1:10.8839 112.240 mph, just 0.3156 seconds off the fastest time of the test.

The team will move to Homestead-Miami Speedway's 1.5-mile on Sunday, March 5, for a one-day Open Test in preparation for the IndyCar Series season-opener at the track on March 26.

Sharp is preparing for his 11th season of IndyCar Series competition. He finished fifth in the championship last year, in his debut season under the Delphi Fernandez Racing banner, with a win at Kentucky, 13 top-10 and six top-five drives.

Scott Sharp, #8 Delphi Panoz/Honda/Firestone:
"It was a really good test for the Delphi Fernandez team. We had a great season last year, but one area that we really wanted to focus on and certainly have better results are the road courses with both me and the team taking steps forward. John Dick [race engineer] and I and really the whole team worked great the last two days. John came here with the approach that, since we don't obviously have a race on the road course here at Homestead, it is not that critical where you end up on the speed chart. What is more important since road course testing is so limited is to learn as much as we can and use those things that maybe don't make you go faster here but that you can apply to St. Pete or Watkins Glen. For us to end up pretty competitive and feel like we learned a lot, I think it was a really strong test for us."
