Harrington Sixth-Fastest Friday at Dover

DOVER, Del., July 30 - Although he's competing at Dover Downs International Speedway this weekend with a broken leg, Scott Harrington turned the sixth-fastest lap in practice Friday at the Monster Mile in the CertainTeed Dallara Aurora #66. There were two practice sessions Friday - one in the morning and one in the afternoon. The 26-car field was split into two groups for each session, and Harrington was in the second group. He was fifth-fastest of his group in the morning session with an average speed of 179.345 mph, which was tenth-fastest overall in the morning. In the afternoon he was third-fastest of his group with an average speed of 181.023 mph, which was sixth-fastest overall for the afternoon session. When both morning and afternoon sessions are combined, his fastest lap was also the sixth-fastest one turned by anyone all day. "The CertainTeed car was great out of the box, and I'm thrilled!" Harrington said. "We were fast right out of the truck and we could run consistently fast all day. If we can stay in the top six in qualifying we'll be in great shape, because I know how well we race. We were the second-quickest car using Firestone tires, and I know in the race the Firestones will stay with us so I'm real confident and excited about our chances on Sunday." Last year at Dover Harrington stepped in to start Eliseo Salazar's car after Salazar was injured before the race. Harrington simply took the green flag and then pulled in so Salazar's team could go down in the record books as an official starter of the race. "I was a little apprehensive about Dover before today because last year all I got to do was strap into a car I'd never driven before, take the green and then pull in. I have never driven any other time here at Dover in any other type of race car," Harrington said. "But after today, I think Dover is awesome. The place is great. Our fourth lap here ever was quicker than a third or more of the field today, so I'm thrilled with the CertainTeed team's performance." Tomorrow's schedule has Harrington on the track at 9:45 a.m. for a 45-minute practice prior to time trials, which begin at noon. The half-hour "happy hour" practice session is slated to begin at 3:45 p.m. Saturday. The MBNA Mid-Atlantic 200 is scheduled to start at 12:30 p.m. Sunday, with same-day delayed coverage on Fox beginning at 3 p.m.
