INDIANAPOLIS, February 26, 2001 -- Walker Racing sophomore sensation Sarah Fisher completed a relatively successful test on Feb. 23 -- 24 at Homestead-Miami Speedway and logged more than 334 miles during the two-day test session. The test gave the Walker Racing team a chance to collect some important data that the team will need when they return to the 1.5-mile oval on April 8 for the second race of the Indy Racing Northern Light Series season.
Weather in Florida was unseasonably cool and windy during the Indy Racing Northern Light Series test and was also punctuated by intermittent showers on Saturday. However, Sarah was able to log a total of 223 laps with at best time of 194.154 mph (27.813 sec.). Her best time was clocked on Saturday afternoon, shortly before Sarah and the turn four wall met. "It was a combination of two things, but mostly the wind," Sarah said. "The car was feeling good and we stuck a new set of tires on to see how good our aerodynamic balance was. When I went around the track for the second lap on the new tires, the wind was gusting from 0 -- 20 mph and it caught me in a gust and around she went! I'm fine though, just a few small bruises on my right leg -- and one huge one."
Sarah and the Walker Racing team had been methodically working their way through their "to do" list and had been making steady progress before the accident ended their test early.
"In spite of a brush with the wall our Homestead test was another step forward towards the start of a new season, said owner Derrick Walker. "This time of the year it is not uncommon for gusty wind conditions in Florida, too bad it caught us today, but the good news is we have a positive direction to come back with for the race in April."
Next up for the Walker Racing team is the first race of the 2001 season at Phoenix International Raceway on March 18.
