Midget Racing Star Sarah Fisher To Test Indy Racing League Car
DAYTON, OH: McClellan Motorsports is arranging a driving test for teenage racing phenom Sarah Fisher. Fisher, an 18 year old native of Commercial Point, Ohio, will test a Pep Boys Indy Racing League (IRL) car at Las Vegas Motor Speedway prior to the vegas.com 500 scheduled for September 26. Sarah is attempting to become the youngest female Indycar driver. "Sarah is a very intelligent driver with tremendous talent," said Mack McClellan of McClellan Motorsports. "Her success on pavement this season proves that she has the talent to become a fine IRL driver." "Our goal is to obtain an IRL license and compete in the vegas.com 500," added McClellan. "We are searching for sponsorship that will allow us to compete at Las Vegas, test during the off-season, and run a full IRL schedule in 2000."
Despite limiting her schedule to pavement midgets this season, Fisher has collected five feature wins in her Mead Carbonless Papers sponsored car. In July, she became the first woman to win a feature event at the famed Winchester Speedway. Fisher began her open wheel racing career at the age of five, in quarter midgets, and has enjoyed success at each level of competition. "This test is a great first step towards reaching my goal of competing in the Indianapolis 500," said Fisher. Additional information on Sarah Fisher's driving career may be found at www.sarahfisher.com.
Dayton, Ohio based McClellan Motorsports is managed by Mack McClellan. McClellan, an International Motorsports Hall of Fame inductee, was recently the Team Manager for Cahill Racing, leading them to two consecutive starts in the Indianapolis 500.
