Indianapolis, IN (4/12/00)-Jonathan Byrd / McCormack Motorsports filed its entry for the Indianapolis 500 today, naming Michigan's Ronnie Johncox as the driver for the Jonathan Byrd's / WorldBestBuy.com / Riley & Scott / Oldsmobile / Firestone Firehawk #30. Johncox will be making his first attempt to qualify for the "Greatest Spectacle in Racing".

Speaking about his first attempt to compete in the field of 33, Ronnie Johncox said, "It's an honor to be making my first attempt to qualify for the Indianapolis 500 driving for Jonathan (Byrd) and Dennis (McCormack). Both of these guys have so much history at Indy and have had a good deal of success. This will be Dennis' 10th year at the 500 as a car owner and Jonathan's 16th year. That's a lot of experience in a lot of different situations, and there's no substitute for it. My engineer, Jeff Braun, my crew chief, Mark Olson, and all the rest of the team have a lot of experience at the Speedway; and our sponsor, WorldBestBuy.com, is very enthusiastic about their first trip to the '500'. All in all, it's going to make for a tremendous experience for me."

"Ronnie is totally focused on the 500, and he is the type of driver that should excel at the Speedway." said team co-owner Dennis McCormack. He added, "Ronnie is a very smart and smooth driver. He's very good at minimizing steering wheel input, which is an absolute necessity for the Speedway's long, sweeping turns. Ronnie and the Indianapolis Motor Speedway should be a good match, and I've got a good feeling about this year's race."

Adding to his partner's comments, Jonathan Byrd noted "The 500 requires a lot of patience and track sense. In our short time together, Ronnie has demonstrated both. Ronnie is also very aggressive, in the best way. He attacks the track and finds the best way around very quickly. Having come up through the grassroots of open wheel racing, Ronnie has always had his sight set on Indianapolis, and his ultimate goal is to make his mark at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Knowing this, we're all looking forward to working with Ronnie, and we are expecting success next month at the '500'."
