Sharp to Start 12th in Richmond
Scott Sharp will start in the middle of the field after qualifying 12th for Saturday evening's SunTrust Indy Challenge at Richmond International Raceway. Sharp, who was sixth fastest overall following the two practice sessions prior to qualifying, will be preparing for his fifth IndyCar Series start on the fast .75-mile oval. He claimed his best result to date at Richmond in 2001, finishing fifth.
Currently two points out of fourth place in the championship, Sharp will be looking for a repeat of his charge at Texas two weeks ago where he overcame a 16-place starting position to finish fourth.
Note - Team Personnel Position Changes:
Tom Anderson, Co-Owner/Managing Director: "In a continuing effort to improve our team, we have repositioned several key figures. John Ward will now be the primary race engineer for Kosuke Matsuura, and Chris Finch will retain the same position for Scott Sharp. John Dick will now become full-time technical director for our engineering department. Adrian [Fernandez] will now assist in race strategy with John Ward for Kosuke, and I will move to Scott's side to assist Chris and Mike Sales with the race strategy. By restructuring mid-season I believe this will bring everyone on the team to full focus and strengthen the team considerably throughout the remainder of the season."
Scott Sharp, #8 Delphi Panoz/Honda/Firestone:
"It was not quite what we hoped for qualifying with the Delphi car. I had a great last practice session and really felt with a couple of tweaks in the car that we would be able to take that next step. Unfortunately, we went a little bit backwards. It cost us several spots in qualifying because the times are so close, but I think we will have a good car for the race and we'll race them from there."
