Matsuura Claims 11th in Richmond Qualifying
Kosuke Matsuura will make his second career run at Richmond International Raceway from the 11th spot on the grid following qualifying this afternoon for the SunTrust Indy Challenge. Matsuura, who will be making only his sixth career short-oval start in tomorrow's 250-lap sprint, endured a difficult race on Richmond's .75-mile bullring last year to finish 14th. With experience under his belt and after claiming his best result to date this season of seventh in Texas two weeks ago, Matsuura is looking to leave Richmond with results the second time around.
Note - Team Personnel Position Changes:
Tom Anderson, Co-Owner/Managing Director: "In a continuing effort to improve our team, we have repositioned several key figures. John Ward will now be the primary race engineer for Kosuke Matsuura, and Chris Finch will retain the same position for Scott Sharp. John Dick will now become full-time technical director for our engineering department. Adrian [Fernandez] will now assist in race strategy with John Ward for Kosuke, and I will move to Scott's side to assist Chris and Mike Sales with the race strategy. By restructuring mid-season, I believe this will bring everyone on the team to full focus and strengthen the team considerably throughout the remainder of the season."
Kosuke Matsuura, #55 Panasonic ARTA Panoz/Honda/Firestone:
"I think the team did a really good job today. Today was the busiest of these two days at Richmond with the practice sessions and qualifying. I didn't have a good result here last year, my first time at this track, and I feel we made a lot of progress. The times are really close. The car is pretty good, and I think John [Ward] and I are working together well."
