Dario Franchitti on the SunTrust Indy Challenge:
"Because of its size, Richmond is a difficult track for several reasons. We turn laps every 15 seconds, which is a very quick pace, and we are constantly turning; there's just a brief time on the backstretch where we are fairly straight. You have to have the car set up properly or you'll easily go down a lap and the driver has to have the physical stamina to handle the g-forces we encounter because we pull over four g's in the corners. It's quite a challenge."

Dario Franchitti Facts

The SunTrust Indy Challenge will mark Franchitti's 27th career IndyCar Series start.

Franchitti finished sixth at the 89th running of the Indianapolis 500 after starting in the sixth position.

Franchitti has led 135 laps this season to rank third among 2005 lap leaders, including leading 52 laps at Phoenix on March 19, 67 laps at Motegi on April 30 and 15 laps at Indianapolis on May 29.

Franchitti led a race-high 79 laps at the 2004 SunTrust Indy Challenge.

The Scotsman recorded his first IndyCar Series MBNA Pole Award last year at Texas on June 10.

Entering the Richmond event, Franchitti is eighth in the driver point standings with 147 points, 11 points shy of fifth place.

Franchitti recorded two victories in 2004, both coming on 1-mile ovals at Milwaukee on July 25 and at Pikes Peak on Aug. 22.

Franchitti has 12 major open-wheel racing victories and 12 career pole positions.

Allen McDonald, Race Engineer, #27 ArcaEx Dallara/Honda/Firestone, on the SunTrust Indy Challenge:
"The ArcaEx car has been very fast and very competitive at each event this season, we just haven't managed to find Victory Lane yet. Dario ran very strongly at Richmond last year, and the ArcaEx team has shown well on the short tracks, so we'll keep doing our best until things fall in place for us."
