MOTEGI, Japan (April 12, 2003) -- Intermittent showers have halted qualifying for Sunday's Bridgestone Japan Indy 300 at the Twin Ring Motegi. Six drivers posted times with Dan Wheldon topping the list with a lap at 204.399 mph (26.7712 seconds).

As the speed chart stands now, Felipe Giaffone is second fastest followed by Kenny Brack, Sam Hornish, Al Unser Jr. and Buddy Lazier.

In the first three practice sessions, Scott Dixon and Tony Kanaan were topping the charts, both have yet to take their qualifying runs.

If qualifying is rained out, Dixon will assume the pole position based on the combined times from Friday and Saturday morning's practice session. Kanaan will be alongside him on the front row.

As of 1:34 p.m. local time, trucks are circulating in an attempt to keep the track dry and return to qualifying.
