There will be no race at the Indianapolis Speedrome tonight, August 16th. The series will end with the final races on August 23rd and 30th. The points race for first place is close. We missed last Thursday, with the IRL race in Kentucky, and at that time only a couple of points separated us from second. The last two races will be critical.

What an incredible experience my first IRL race was!! I feel so fortunate to be driving for Meijer and Coca-Cola. Thanks to them for giving me this opportunity to run two IRL races this year. We had personal appearances and autograph sessions at the local Meijer stores in the Cincinnati area Thursday and Friday nights.

Our goal for the weekend was to run out there like a practice session and not a race. I wanted to learn as much as I could and still have me, and the car, in one piece at the checkered flag. Our qualifying run of 209.396 put us 15th on the grid inside Row 8. We achieved our goal, safely completing 190 laps, running successfully in traffic, executing pit stops, and overcoming radio and underwear problems.

When we started the race, the crew strapped me in tight, but my lucky underwear were just a little too loose. Things were cramped up just a bit. I didn't want to complain, so I just made the best of it.

Our radios were out about 80% of the race, so I couldn't get help from my spotter or the crew. Several attempts by the officials with the black flag to bring me in failed, as I was so busy concentrating on a thousand other things that I never saw the flag! Some of my high school buddies thought my new sponsor should be Black Flag - You put it out and they don't come in!

A yellow flag brought me in and we fixed the radios, only to have them go out again. That made things a little difficult at times, but we managed to finish 17th. You can go to the team website, www.treadwayracing.com for even more race information.

Thanks again to all my friends and family for the tremendous support you gave me last weekend. Our next IRL race will be Sunday, September 2, 2001, at the Chicagoland Speedway, Joliet, IL

This race is sold out and tickets are unavailable through the team, but it will be televised live on ABC. We qualify Saturday at Noon, and the race begins Sunday, at 3PM
