INDIANAPOLIS, Indiana (June 21, 1999) -- Kelley Racing drivers Mark Dismore and Scott Sharp are looking to finish well on the 1-mile oval at Pikes Peak International Raceway for this weekend's Radisson 200. Dismore, driving the #28 MCI WorldCom/Dallara/Aurora/Goodyear car, comes off a pole win at Texas and has quietly moved up in the driver points standings where he is currently in third place behind Jeff Ward and points leader Scott Goodyear. The Greenfield, Ind., native has finished in the top 10 in three of four starts this season. This mixture of consistency and speed could deliver Dismore with his first career IRL victory at Pikes Peak on Sunday, June 27.
Teammate Scott Sharp, who is currently sixth in the championship standings with a total of 85 points, tested a few weeks ago at PPIR and was the fastest out of all the IRL competitors. A win at Pikes Peak would bring Sharp's carrier IRL victories to four. In 1997, Sharp started from the pole at the first annual Pikes Peak race event but had an accident on the first lap and sustained head injuries that forced him to miss the rest of the 1996-1997 season.
Scott Sharp on the Pikes Peak track: "I like Pikes Peak. It's one of the smoothest 1-mile ovals we race on all year. There are three different grooves a driver can take around the track. It's a very challenging track and I'm sure we'll have some great racing. We had a strong test at PPIR a few weeks ago, and I'm confident we will have a good shot at winning."
Mark Dismore on starting 4th last year at Pikes Peak: "We were a little behind the eight-ball last year. We never got a chance to do any testing and I'm sure it caught up with us during the race. The car was very loose throughout the entire race. We learned a great deal and I hope it will pay-off for this Sunday's race."
Scott Sharp on the race last year: "We didn't get a chance to test at Pikes Peak prior to the race. I think it hurt our performance. I don't think we found a set-up right for us all weekend. If anything, we came away from the race with a lot more knowledge of the track and how to set-up the car."
Jim Freudenberg, Kelley Racing General Manager, on expectations for Pikes Peak: "We are excited about going to Pikes Peak. We didn't do very well last year, so we are anxious to really show what we can do. Colorado is a big market for MCI WorldCom Service Centers, and it would be great to finish well. We tested a few weeks ago at the track, and we should be good to go for this weekend's race."
