Firehawks Handle The Heat; Buddy Gives Bob A Gift

Hemelgarn Racing driver Buddy Lazier gave his dad, Bob, a really good Father's Day present when he won today's Radisson 200 at Pikes Peak International Raceway. While temperatures were above the 140 degrees mark for the race, the winner said his "Firestones were awesome; they were perfect all day and we couldn't have asked for anything more."

Team owner Ron Hemelgarn said the Firehawk racing radials were wearing and working so well on Buddy's Dallara/Olds machine "That we didn't come in on the last yellow; we just ran on the set we had because they were working so well. The Firestones were just fantastic."

Buddy had 81 race laps on the set of Firestone tires that carried him across the finish line. Those tires also had laps accumulated in qualifying, and some laps during practice.

Quote from Joe Barbieri, Bridgestone/Firestone Motorsports Project Supervisor: "What a race. There were battles in the front and battles in the middle; it was good to see such competitive action. The Firehawks contributed significantly to that racing, with many teams running extra long stints because the tires worked so well. Considering how hot it was, and the fact there was a different rubber compound on the track from a previous series, we believe the Firehawks deserve a pat on the tread for their performance today."

Quote from Team Purex Dreyer & Reinbold driver Robbie Buhl: "The tires were great. We were working hard to stay with the track conditions. When I came in on my first pit, the guys told me the tires were working great and that I could run 'em as hard as I wanted. So that was good."

Firestone Half-Way Award: Sam Hornish earned a $10,000 bonus from the Firestone Racing program for leading at the mid-point of today's race. The check will be presented to him in pre-race ceremonies at the June 30 event in Richmond. <pre> Temperature Information Time: Ambient: Track: 10:00 a.m. 84 118 (practice session) 2:00 p.m 95 140 (start of race) 3:30 p.m. 97 143
