Kelley Racing Completes Phoenix Open Test
Indianapolis, IN (February 13, 2004)--Kelley Racing completed their final open test of the off-season today at Phoenix International Raceway. The No. 8 Delphi entry ran a total of 229 miles on the one-mile oval over the course of the two-day test. Driver Scott Sharp posted a quick time of 20.8975 seconds; 172.269 mph during the afternoon session on Wednesday. Scott Dixon was the quickest driver of the test with a time of 20.2732 seconds; 177.574 mph.
Team manager Paul Harcus oversaw the test for Kelley Racing and was pleased with the overall progress of the Kelley Racing Dallara/Toyota/Firestone entry as well as the dynamics among the team. "Yesterday we spent a good majority of the day working on the race car and our pit stops," said Harcus. "We made some gains although we're still not exactly where we want to be but we've got some time between now and the race to get stronger. The guys have been working really hard here at the test as well as back in the shop in Indianapolis. I think this was a productive test for Kelley Racing and we're looking forward to the first race."
Scott Sharp, driver of the No. 8 Delphi entry, was also pleased with the direction of the test. "We weren't exactly where we wanted to be on the speed chart but our race car feels pretty good," said Sharp. "We have room for improvement between now and the race and the way these guys have been working, I know that we will make some gains." Sharp left the Phoenix test and immediately flew to Daytona Beach where he will participate in the first IROC race of the season Friday afternoon.
The Kelley Racing team will now return to Indianapolis to prepare for the season-opening Toyota Indy 300, which will take place February 29 at Homestead-Miami Speedway. The race will be broadcast live on ESPN and the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Radio Network. For Toyota Indy 300 ticket information, call (305) 230-RACE or log onto www.homesteadmiamispeedway.com.
